Lake Michigan Bird Observatory (LMBO) strives to advance the conservation of birds in Wisconsin and throughout the Western Great Lakes Region through coordinated research, monitoring, and education. Our three pillar programs are the MOTUS Wildlife Tracking System, the Neighborhood Habitat Improvement Program and Bird City Wisconsin. The MOTUS system helps researchers understand how birds move across the landscape, providing essential information on their migratory habitat needs. The Neighborhood Habitat Improvement Program engages individual homeowners, landowners, and communities in creating habitats that provide food, clean water, and shelter for birds. Bird City Wisconsin encourages communities to implement sound bird-conservation practices.
LMBO values fostering high-quality habitat for local and migrating bird species, which includes clean water. That's why LMBO is a member of the Ozaukee County Watershed Coalition (OCWC), a group of stakeholders working to conserve and restore the watersheds of Ozaukee County.
