In August 2023, I began removing dense buckthorn and other invasive plants from this area, carefully preserving a few established American elms and the red twig dogwood along the perimeter to retain structure and habitat. The recovery was almost immediate. By August 2024, native sedges and wildflowers had reemerged entirely on their own from the dormant seed bank, and I documented 33 native species that returned without any planting or assistance. After introducing additional native seeds and plants to further diversify the habitat, the total rose to 60 documented species within a single year.
